The Distillery’s Story – Kosher Wheat Specific: “Buffalo Trace Distillery produced this Wheat Recipe Bourbon in a partnership with the Chicago Rabbinical Council (cRc). I can say though that now that I’ve tried this, I will be leaving these on the shelf to those who actually need Kosher Whiskey when they partake. The Story: I, like many, saw a Buffalo Trace product that had “wheat” listed and it got my mind turning… How does this stack up against some of the iconic Buffalo Trace brands that feature Wheat (Weller line, Pappy line, & 1792 Sweet Wheat)? The Kosher aspect of the whiskey didn’t impact my purchase decision. Price Ceiling: $50 and that’s pushing it. Not because it’s horrible, but mostly because I’ve tried it and I know that there’s much more out there for less than that can deliver more. I won’t be revisiting this bottle any time soon.

This came across as younger than a 7 year whiskey. I found it for $79 at a Binny’s in Chicago and in Michigan I have only seen price tags of $99 or more. If you can find it for the MSRP of $40 (I had to google that MSRP) sure give it a try. Not to mention Weller SR is a little thin itself. I put this head to head against Weller Special Reserve and Special Reserve has so much more to offer. Verdict: Overall it was pretty good, but it was missing substance. It has lingering sweetness and Caramel with underlying fruitiness in the back seat. Simple and not complex at all.įinish: The finish rounds out with some spice similar to Cinnamon Red Hots with mild Fresh oak. Caramel, Cinnamon, Stone Fruits again, with a Simple Syrup type sweetness. Taste/Palate: Slightly Sharp for a Buffalo Trace product with a little more bite than normal. Nose: Stone Fruit, Light Caramel, Vanilla Bean, Cinnamon, and Grain Husk ( Slight Earthy Nose ).
